OPTions for Parking and Transportation (OPT) Program
The Options for Parking and Transportation (OPT) program is a staff program developed and managed by Partners for Care in partnership with NS Health to support QEII Health Sciences Centre campus staff with their commutes to work during the Halifax Infirmary Expansion Project.
Permanent, Casual & Term NS Health staff; Physicians and Physician Support staff who work at the following buildings are eligible for the program:
The Halifax Infirmary site:
- Halifax Infirmary
- Abbie J Lane Memorial
- Camp Hill Veterans' Memorial
The Victoria General site:
- Nova Scotia Rehabilitation Centre
- Bethune
- Mackenzie
- Dickson
- Victoria
- Centennial
Option 1. Active & Sustainable Transportation
Campus staff who use active and/or sustainable transportation—including walking, running, rollerblading, scootering, biking, and carpooling—to and from work at least three times a week receive five free taxi vouchers from Halifax Transit's Guaranteed Ride Home Program to get home from work throughout the year in case of a personal/family emergency or illness, overtime, or if their carpool partner is unavailable.
Option 2 - Public Transit (Halifax Transit Epass)
Halifax Transit EPasses is available to QEII campus staff at a discounted rate of $25/month, paid for through payroll deductions or monthly Pre-authorized Debit (PAD) payments.
Campus staff who use public transit at least three times a week receive five free taxi vouchers from Halifax Transit's Guaranteed Ride Home Program to get home from work throughout the year in case of a personal/family emergency or illness, overtime, or if their carpool partner is unavailable.
Option 3 - Staff Parking Resources
FREE On-site staff parking at the QEII
There are 50 free parking spots in the Victoria General parking lot and 100 free parking spots in the Summer St Parkade, Monday to Friday, available to staff on a first-come, first-served basis.

In addition to automotive parking spots, we also offer a secure bike rack program for cyclists at the Halifax Infirmary Underground garage, as well as bike racks and bike cages at all QEII campus sites.
